Do our Side-By-Side Steel vs Oak Challenge

 Shenandoah Steel Chardonnay

$13 Glass  | $30 Bottle

Named the #3 white wine in Virginia, Little Washington Winery's Shenandoah Steel (naked) Chardonnay is pure elegance in a bottle. Cluster pressed grapes, crisp acidity and delicate hints of pear and melon evoke the Old World style of the Chablis region of Burgundy. We've captured the essence of the Chardonnay grape with this bottling. Never touched by oak barrels, this wine is at the forefront of the trend for bright, crisp, refreshing wine that lets the fruit shine without oak influence. Delicious on its own and with a variety of dishes. Pair this wine up with anything a chef would bring out with a lemon for a perfect pairing.

 Old World Oak Chardonnay

$12 Glass  |  $27 Bottle

Little Washington Winery's Old World Oak Chardonnay went through malalactic fermentation to give it a creamy buttery nuance, then was aged for 4 months in barrels and 3 months in tanks to enhance the silky texture, while keeping the pure, fruit-focused expression. Floral, fresh ginger and mineral nuances lace expansive fruity flavors that become increasingly interesting and complex as the wine warms in the glass. This wine pairs nicely with seafood and salad and can cross over to richer dishes like chicken and Alfredo sauces too!

Chateauneuf du Shenando Merlot

$13 Glass  |  $30 Bottle

As the offspring to the Cabernet Franc and Magdeleine Noire grapes and known as the chameleon in the wine industry, Merlot sits in the middle of the red wine spectrum and can be grown in a variety of climates and regions. Warmer climates like Virginia produce a silkier wine, softer on the tannins with hints of nutmeg, cherry, raspberry and mocha. You will notice ours seems a little bit bolder than a typical Merlot. We spiked it with a few more months of barrel time to add a little OOOMPH!

Constitution Cabernet Franc

$13 Glass | $30 Bottle

Gold Medal Winner, Little Washington Winery's Cabernet Franc presents an understated elegance that can be savored with food or saved for after dinner chocolates and cigars. The nose evokes roasted red pepper, jalapeño, sweet raspberry compote and wet gravel. On the palate moderately low tannins bring out flavors of sour cherry, smoky tomato, dried oregano, sweet pepper and mint. The taste bursts through your palate and drops out quickly with a subtle tingle from the acidity.

George 2017

$14 Glass | $47 Bottle

Named the #1 red wine in Virginia, Little Washington Winery's signature red, George, is a Left Bank Bordeaux style blend! Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, concentrated fruit give this 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc blend perfectly balanced flavor and body with a smooth and complex, robust structure. Dark cherry and plum flavors settle into tertiary flavors of violets, chocolate, licorice, truffles, tobacco leaf, smoke and spice. Silky texture. Nice width and depth on the palate.

Castillo Ducay Rosé - $21

This masterpiece blend of Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon hails from the Aragón region of Northern Spain. This winegrowing area is situated to the south of the River Ebro, and north-east of Calatayud. The region’s climate is decidedly continental, with extreme seasonal and daily temperature variations, although a cold northerly wind – the Cierzo – helps to moderate summer temperatures and keep humidity low and imparts characteristic intensity to the local grapes. Today, Garnacha (Grenache) is the most favored grape here. Rosé wine with a beautiful color and shine, very tasty with an unmistakable range of aromas of flowers and fruits. The palate is fleshy and pleasant to remember.

Old Vine Grenache from Barossa - $30

Grenache is responsible for some of the most delicious and expensive wine in the world. From exalted regions like Châteauneuf-du-Pape to cult California wines, Grenache is just as important in the wine world as Cabernet Sauvignon. The unmistakable candied fruit roll-up and cinnamon flavor is what gives Grenache away to expert blind tasters. It has a medium-bodied taste due to its higher alcohol, but has a deceptively lighter color. Brimming with bright fruit notes of wild strawberries & cherry backed up by subtle spice of white pepper. On the palate, the fruit continues with further notes of raspberries and plum with a hint of French oak. Delicate complex finish. 95 points.

Meet the Albarossa Grape - $34

1491 is a special cuvee made of the unique and rarest grape in Piemonte, the Albarossa grape developed over 80 years ago in Piemonte. 1491 celebrates the year of the first documentation of planting grapes around the Castle, right after it was purchased by the Count of Gonzaga. This Albarossa 1491 Castello di Uviglie wine is made of 100% Albarossa grapes. Deep ruby red color. The nose dominates with scents of blueberry and plum, enriched with spicy nuances that recall cinnamon and black pepper. Medium-bodied with the sip, characterized by silky and velvety tannins. Good length on the finish.
